Target Market AnalysisTarget Market Analysis – how much time do you invest in analyzing your target market?  How often do you evaluate who your customer is?

As a Direct Marketing Consultant, my clients are coming to me asking me for specific targeted lists.  Therefore, you would think that they are very clear on who their customer is.  Not necessarily…… 😉

Here’s a great article from American Express titled, “Quick Ways to Reassess Your Target Market.”

The article focuses on the following key points regarding target market analysis:

1.  When is your business most active?  Why is this time most busy for you?  What is it about this timing?  Take a deeper look to understand.

2.  Who frequents my business?  Who are your typical customers?  Who are the outliers?  What attracts them to your business?

3.  Why do they shop at my business?  Ask your customers why they chose you over the dozens of other companies they could have gone with?  What differentiates you from the others?

4.  What technology are they using?  How did they find you?  What type of technology do they typically use?

Direct Mail Vs. Email Marketing: Who Wins the Battle? That is the question. Which route to take today considering how online everyone is – or are they?

As a Direct Marketing Consultant, I think that there are still a lot of people who still prefer to touch and feel vs. the electronic format; especially people who are over 50.

Here is an article from www.directmailman.com titled as per my article title, “Direct Mail vs. Email Marketing: Who Wins the Battle?”  I like the title of this article because it speaks to direct marketing today and the push pull between these 2 players.

According to the article, direct mail is still more effective than email marketing.  It is actually 10 to 30 times more effective than email marketing.

The article goes on to confirm that direct mail marketing has had consistent response rates since 2010.

A recent Huffington Post article confirms that consumers prefer direct mail marketing over email marketing for all types of product promotions.  The article goes on to confirm that 50% of USA consumers prefer direct mail marketing to email marketing.

Another important point that the article makes is that it costs you 5 to 7 times more to acquire a new customer than to maintain your current list of customers.

What does Wikipedia say about direct mail marketing?  It talks about direct mail being a marketing piece that is sent through the postal service to recipients.
