Who is winning: Facebook vs. Google?

I decided to do some research to see what is being said in various articles in an attempt to gain a better sense of which company is winning – Facebook vs. Google. Here they are:
Here is an article on a site called All Facebook – The unofficial Facebook resource. Some of the comments that the article is making are:
- Facebook is ahead of Google in pay per click ads, however, Google is still bigger
- Facebook’s membership is almost at 700 million
- Facebook’s average cost per click is 55 cents vs. Google’s 54 cents
- Facebook’s revenue from display ads is $2.2 Billion vs. $1.15 Billion for Google
Here is another article from ClickZ, entitled, “Facebook vs. Google – The Battle for Local SMB’s (small medium business) Ad Dollars”. Here are some highlights from the article:
- Google, with over $30 Billion in revenues, has only converted less than 1.1 million domestic USA businesses or 4 percent into paying customers!
- Google has a turnover rate of over 50% on the SMB ads
- Google & Facebook are poised to capture the SMB market with the ever declining traditional marketing approaches
Based on the above, it would seem that Facebook is in a very strong position in the targeted marketing realm. With support from targeted marketing firms like Pinnacle Lists, organizations can certainly take advantage of cost effective online approaches such as opt in email campaigns.
